Unit 4, weeks 11-19

IN THE HOUSE

In this unit we will learn how to talk about furniture and other things in the house. We will also learn useful words and phrases to talk about how you live.

What are we going to do?                                      

•·        Learn words for furniture and other things in the house.

•·        Learn how to describe your own house/flat/room.

•·        Learn words and phrases used when talking about housework and looking for a place to live.

•·        Learn about how people live in Great Britain.

•·        Grammar exercises:      Workbook pp. 97-102

Why are we learning this?                                     

• To be able to describe a flat/house, the different rooms and furniture - orally and in writing.
• To be able to describe your own room and furniture orally and in writing.
• To be able to describe the most common British houses orally and in writing.
• To be able to talk about problems related to housework.
• To understand what people say when they talk about their flats/houses.

In this unit we will learn how to talk about food, eating out and cooking. We will also learn useful words and phrases to talk about school lunches and your favourite dishes.

•·        Learn how to talk about food that you like and dislike.

•·        Learn words and phrases used when cooking and eating with others at home or at a restaurant

•·        Learn about popular British and American food.

Class 7:2 & 7:4 will have their test on Monday and class 7:1 & 7:3 will have it on Tuesday.
The test is on Section 2: Clothes.
- There will be a listening comprehension;
-  you need to learn names of different clothes,
- words and phrases used to describe people,
- words and phrases that you use in the shop, and
- grammar - the past tense (dåtid).
- There will also be a writing task where you will need to describe somebody.

Class 7:2 & 7:4 Can you describe them?, pp. 44-45, Textbook, and ex. 6, p. 34  and ex. 8, p. 35 in the Workbook. Homework: Write a poem describing your friend (use the poem on p. 42 in the Workbook as an example).  Do grammar exercises on pp. 51-52 in the Workbook.
Friday: Shopping phrases, Textbook p. 37. Jumbled dialogues A - practise role play.
Homework for next Friday: grammar exercises, Workbook, pp. 53-54

Don't forget to send your poem to me if you haven't already done it.

Class 7:1 & 7:3 Can you describe them?, pp. 44-45, Textbook, and ex. 6, p. 34  and ex. 8, p. 35 in the Workbook. Homework: Write a poem describing your friend (use the poem on p. 42 in the Workbook as an example).  Do grammar exercises on pp. 51-52 in the Workbook. If this is too much homework for Thursday, you can do the grammar for next week but do remember that there will be more grammar homework set on Thursday. There will be no English lesson next Tuesday and you're having your test in week 50 so we don't have much time left. Keep working!
Thursday: Shopping phrases, Textbook p. 37. Work in pairs and write a conversation between the shop assistant and the customer, using the phrases in the book.

CLOTHES

In this unit we will learn how to describe people and what they wear. We will also learn useful phrases for shopping for clothes.

What are we going to do?

•·        Describe what people look like

•·        Learn words and phrases used when shopping for clothes

•·        Grammar: Possessive pronouns (my, your, his)

Adverbs: always, never, often, usually etc

Verbs in the past tense

Why are we learning this?                                     

• To be able to describe people and what they wear
• To understand when people describe others
• To be able to go shopping for clothes
• To learn how to write a poem describing your friend
